We will begin this webinar with a discussion of the Form W-4. Though the form appears simple, it is deceptive in its simpleness and often gets quite complex. We’ll discuss the Form W4 from both the employee and employer perspectives. Then we’ll move on to other payroll topics, including the latest version of Form 941, W-2 updates, the employee retention credit, 1099 changes, and any other topics that are “breaking” as of the date of the webinar.
Form W-4 is the form employees complete to tell you as the employer how much tax to withhold from the paycheck. The IRS made substantial changes to withholding calculations in 2020 and employees are still learning about these changes. Many employees will therefore desire to update their forms and will be asking questions from employers as they work to adjust their withholdings. This session will cover Form W-4 from both the employee and the employer side and will provide updates on other payroll matters as well.
After this session, attendees will
To understand the new Form W-4 and the proper way to process a federal W-4 To understand what to do with current employees who already have a W-4 on file To understand how to calculate withholding now and with the new W-4 To understand other payroll changes, such as the treatment of moving expenses To understand changes to Form 1099-MISC and Form 1099-NEC.
